wintertime ailments naturally with medicinal kitchen spices
For all those who are battling a wintertime runny nose, congestion, cough, cold, sneezing, sore throat, or general achiness, North America’s leading expert on wild medicinal spices, Cass Ingram, author of the newly updated book, The Cure is in the Cupboard, 20th Anniversary Edition, is here with advice on how to quickly nurse yourself back to health using the power of wild oregano and other germ-fighting aromatic spices:
Sore Throat: “When applied directly upon the throat, oregano oil rapidly eliminates pain and inflammation, plus it quickly destroys the causative organism,” says Ingram.
Treatment protocol: Add a few drops of oil of wild oregano to salt water and gargle several times daily. Take five or more drops of the oil under the tongue two to five times daily. (full protocol on page 159)
Runny Nose: “Studies show that molds are the cause of a wide range of sinus symptoms, including runny nose, post nasal drip, acute sinus infections, and stuffy sinuses as well as chronic sinusitis itself,” says Ingram. Treatment protocol: Inhale the wild oregano oil frequently, place a drop or two of oil of on the skin next to the nose; consume it under the tongue, five or more drops twice daily. (full protocol on page 157)
Flu: “Influenza viruses are highly vulnerable to the powers of wild spice oils and also other spice oils from plantation- or farm-raised plants such as oils of cinnamon, allspice, and cumin. Oil of wild oregano is the most potent medicine against the flu known,” says Ingram. Treatment protocol: five or more drops of oregano oil repeatedly until the symptoms are resolved. (full protocol on page 95)
Congestion: “Oil of wild oregano is a type of natural sinus medicine. It helps open clogged sinus passages, while thinning mucus as well as halting excessive mucus secretion. Wild oregano has been used historically to relieve constricted breathing, including asthma attacks. As mentioned previously it possesses significant powers for reversing a wide range of lung- and bronchial related symptoms, including congestion, cough, thick mucus, and wheezing,” says Ingram. Treatment protocol: Inhale the oil frequently to help open clogged passages. Place a drop or two of oil of wild oregano on the skin next to the nose for a more direct effect. (full protocol on page 157)
Coughing: “The oil is currently being evaluated in a clinical setting in the treatment of coughing. Of the twenty individuals so far tested, all noted significant relief from coughing after taking either oregano oil or the crushed oregano herb. Many have reported an outright cure,” says Ingram. Treatment protocol: Inhale the oil of wild oregano directly from the bottle as often as possible. Take a few drops of the oil under the tongue twice daily or gargle with a few drops in salt water. (full protocol on page 96)
Sneezing: “Fits of sneezing and massive allergic attacks are halted in a matter of seconds after administrating the oil,” says Ingram. Treatment protocol: Inhale oregano oil frequently and place a drop of oil of wild oregano on the skin next to the nose. Also, a sinus spray made from oils of wild oregano, bay leaf, and sage in a sea salt solution brings relief virtually immediately. (full protocol on page 157)
Ingram says that it is important to realize that wild oregano for medicinal purposes is not the same as the one found in the spice section of the grocery store or the type found in pizza.
“Medicinal grade oregano arises from unique species of plants which grow wild throughout the world,” says Ingram. “The highest grades are found in the Mediterranean, where it is native and naturally grows wild.”
